Shopfronts in Blue Mountains

Frontages for mountain villages

Glenbrook is a 43 minute drive from our Smeaton Grange workshop, Springwood 56 and Katoomba 87, off peak. We measure, make and install shopfronts across the Blue Mountains with our own team.

Village shops in Katoomba, Leura and Blackheath sit on busy tourist streets, and many are in heritage areas where council approval may be needed. We can supply product specs for your application and finish frames in colours that suit the street.

Upper Mountains winters are cold, and a single glazed frontage loses a lot of heat. Double glazing up to 26mm keeps shops and cafes warmer, and a good door closer keeps the warmth in between customers.

Glass explained

Choosing glass for the Blue Mountains homes

Here is how each glass option helps, so you can compare before your free measure.

Glass typeWhat it doesBest for
Toughened safety glassHeat treated to around four to five times the strength of standard glass. If it breaks, it crumbles into small blunt pieces.Doors, low windows and bathrooms where AS 1288 calls for safety glass.
Laminated glassTwo panes bonded with a clear interlayer that holds the glass together if it breaks and blocks most UV.Security, street facing rooms and less fading of floors and furniture.
Acoustic laminated glassLaminated glass with a sound dampening interlayer.Bedrooms near main roads, rail lines and flight paths.
Low E glassA very thin coating that reflects heat, keeping summer heat out and winter warmth in.West facing rooms and large sliding doors.
Double glazingTwo panes with a sealed gap between them. Cuts heat transfer, outside noise and condensation.Year round comfort, quieter rooms and cold winters.
Bushfire rated glazingGlass and frames specified to your Bushfire Attack Level under AS 3959.Homes on bushfire prone land.

Residential windows in Australia are rated to AS 2047 for wind, water and air. Energy performance is shown as a U value (heat loss) and SHGC (solar heat gain), and many products carry a WERS rating. We explain the numbers at your measure.

Not sure what suits your the Blue Mountains home?

Send a few photos and rough sizes. We will point you in the right direction before the measure.

Common questions

Shopfronts questions from Blue Mountains

Do you install shopfronts in Blue Mountains?
Yes. Our own team measures and installs across Blue Mountains. Drive times from our Smeaton Grange workshop are 43 minutes to Glenbrook, 56 to Springwood, 87 to Katoomba, off peak.
What glass do you use in shopfronts?
Toughened or laminated safety glass to AS 1288, with tinted, frosted, Low E and double glazed options up to 26mm.
Which entry door suits a shopfront?
Most of our shopfronts use Torrens 45mm doors, hinged, pivot or sliding, up to 2700mm high. Wide stiles and midrails from 45mm to 200mm add strength and room for signage.
Can the shopfront take an automatic door later?
Yes. We can frame the opening so it is ready for an automatic sliding door, now or later.
Do I need council approval for a new shopfront?
Sometimes, especially in heritage areas or where the look of the frontage changes. Check with your council or landlord first. We can supply product specs for your application.
Will double glazing keep my shop warmer?
Yes. Double glazed units up to 26mm hold heat much better than single glazing through mountain winters.
Do I need council approval in Katoomba or Leura?
Possibly, as many village shops are in heritage areas. Check with council first. We can supply product specs.
How long does an order take?
Most orders are made and installed within 3 to 5 weeks of sign off. Your written quote confirms the timeline.
